El Skate Shop - The Wildest Skateboard Shop in the West

El Skate Shop began in 2002 as online shop AND brick and mortar shop in Huntington Beach, CA. At 177 square feet we were fairly certain we owned the title of "Smallest Skate Shop in The World".

We also went by the slogan of "The Almost Non-Profit Skate Shop" where we priced our inventory very low in order to make easier for people to keep skating. You could buy blank decks from $16 to $20. Grip was $3.

As of 2021, elskateshop.com is mostly an archival site. However, we still do sell grip tape, wax and hardware and may one day get back into the business of selling skate goods.

Past team riders included Dallas Rockvam, Aaron Babila, Chris Treiber, Chris Hernandez, Mike Davidson, Matt Bublitz, Amber Moffatt, Darrell Norman, Eric Ricks and Ryan Fitch.

Rode for Habitat for a while. Then switched to Plan B. Not sure if he is still on Plan B or not. Wenning boards are usually mellow in terms of concave. I bet his Habitat boards were the best. Too bad those days are over.

I remember when this video came out. People were obsessed with this guy’s style. And then he kind of faded out of skate scene. Watch that clip to see what I’m talking about.

Being in the DC Video was a huge deal at the time. I don’t they had ever released a skate video – so to be in the first one was to be treated like skateboarding royalty. You would think your skating career would be have enough of a boost to keep you going for five or so years. Actually, watching this part again, he had one of the best ledge skating styles I think I’ve ever seen. Super smooth. He may have set the steez for that generation.

This footage is almost 20 years old and still classic, you can see the old Venice skate park also.

Jeron has been a staple on the Girl Skateboards team for decades now. We get the feeling he is from the valley and has possibly skated for Val-Surf skate shop in the San Fernando Valley. There seems to be some early relationship between that skate shop and Girl Skateboards for quite some time.

If you’re from the Valley, perhaps you should try to ride for that shop – or spend time skating with the dudes associated with that shop. You might go somewhere ;).
